Ask Poops, Please

Putting my two cents in.

Born and bred in a small New England town, I am convinced that I know something about everything, and that my opinion matters. If only to me. Well, you'll see what I mean. And I love to knit, so you'll see what kind of things I'm doing when I should be vacuuming the living room.

"I Can't Wait for Sunday!!!"

Shouted aloud by the Bug on her way to the bus stop. Why, you ask? "Because I can take communion again! I can do it EVERY Sunday!"

Ah, God bless Sister Mary Catherine of the Five Wounds. Here she is receiving the Eucharist from our beloved Fr. Albert. "I don't mind the host too much. They taste like cardboard, and I've chewed cardboard before so it didn't bother me." Really? When? Your mother would like you to stop chewing cardboard, please. And a sip from the cup. "That wine just tastes HORRID. But I think I'll have some next week anyway. Do you have an Altoid?" No, I left the Altoids at home, and take it from me, they don't mix with wine.
After Mass, taking some snaps at Godmother Tanta's house. Note the fantabulous pew banner behind her. We made that from felt. Clearly felt is a good medium for me. You should see the one we made for Fr. Albert. It's got the South Park Jesus holding a bunch of balloons with his name down the side. It's awesome, dude. He says he might stitch it onto a vestment and wear it during Mass.
She's modeling the capelet I made for her to wear with her dress. I basically used a raglan top-down sweater pattern and knit it in stockinette to where I'd normally separate for the sleeves. Then I used the Grapevine lace pattern from my stitch dictionary. The collar I knit for about an inch and then did a row of eyelets to make a picot edge when it was turned and stitched under. I put on mother-of-pearl leaf buttons with a loop closure right at the neck, and the front has a turned under hem as well.
That's a close-up of the back. It's creamier than the stark white of her dress, but it still looked lovely.

My mom has the rest of the pics on her camera, and I hope she got some that didn't come out so dark.

So the big First Communion day went really well. She was truly angelic.

In knitting news, I've been working like Chinese sweatshop knitter to get the cape done, and then turned attention to getting the house cleaned up for the party. We wound up going next door to Sister's house since it's bigger, and as it rained all day no one would be able to hang out on the lawn like I'd planned.

But the house is more or less clean now. I figure in another month people will be dropping in to see the new baby, so it was going to have to be done anyway.

I still have a lovely new stash of yarn from Webs to show you. I didn't get much. I kept my purchases to under 40 dollars, if you can believe it! I'm saving up for NH Sheep and Wool on Mother's Day. I plan on stocking up on some new rovings to spin.

Like elizabeth, I too have a bag of roving that seems like it's going to be a lifetime project to spin. My dad and his girlfriend are currently assembling and finishing the new niddy-noddy my sister got me for Christmas, and as soon as it's back, I've got two bobbinfuls to skein. One is white. I may dye it, though I haven't quite decided yet.

So after gorgeous summer-like weather all last week, it's going to rain all this week. I'm not complaining. It keeps the pollen down and I have to work in Dave's room. Need to weed out some toys and put the crib together, and put the clothes I've been given in the drawers.

Oh, my friends Matthew and Sarah who have six-month old twins gave me four diaper boxes stuffed with newborn clothes. STUFFED. There are at least 60 onesies in there, and one box has no less than 3o footie sleepers. And she said to let her know when he's ready for the next size, she'll be ready.

Only a month left until he gets here!

Awwww!!! So sweet! Man, you know how people post pictures of their senior or prom pictures--they ought to have one of First Communion pictures. Seeing Bug look so beautiful makes me remember how dorky I looked! And cardboard? Man, I could eat Hosts like potato chips! I love those things! That's probably a sin to love them so much right?

Oh, congratulations! First Communion, such a very special occasion, and such a pretty capelet to wear with the dress. You took beautiful pictures of her with the host and the cup.

I remember having some trouble with the host... and mumbling something very much like, "Oh no, I think Jesus is stuck to the roof of my mouth." Maybe I should have chewed cardboard for practice... Never thought of that.

Bug looks gorgeous! You must have been just bustin' proud. :D
(Or bustin' something, anyway. Man, that last month feels like you're about to pop doesn't it??)

Best wishes, darling!

You must be above and beyond proud.

I remember my first communion too...we Lutherans do things a bit later...and being riddled with the worms of disappointment when I first tasted the wafer. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that.

The capelet is really beautiful. Maybe you could have it preserved like you do wedding dresses for her to use for her daughter's first communion.
